Will high moisture content of wood cause blockage in a hammer mill?

Indeed, wood with excessive high moisture content will easily lead to material blockage inside a hammer mill, and this problem happens frequently during daily operation of a hammer mill. When wet wood is fed into the crushing chamber of a hammer mill, the moist wood fibers will stick together quickly under continuous impact and friction of rotating hammers. The sticky wet sawdust will attach to the inner wall, hammer blades and screen mesh of the hammer mill gradually. 

As the accumulation increases, the discharging channel of the hammer mill will be blocked seriously. Once blockage occurs inside the hammer mill, the running efficiency of the whole machine will decrease sharply. 

The hammer mill cannot discharge materials smoothly, which will cause heavy load on the motor, abnormal vibration and even forced shutdown of the hammer mill. What is worse, long-time blocking operation will accelerate wear of internal parts and shorten the service life of the hammer mill

To keep stable working condition, the wood raw materials should be kept at suitable moisture before being put into a hammer mill. Properly dry wood can ensure smooth feeding and discharging, reduce adhesion problems, and guarantee continuous and efficient operation of the hammer mill
